UK exports of technology were worth £3.2 billion in 2018, according to the latest data.
The report on the latest figures was published by the Department for International Trade (DIT) and it highlights the significant increase in exports for the robotics and spacecraft sectors.
Exports of robots have increased by more than 200 per cent in the past five years, while spacecraft exports were worth £282 million last year.
The report follows news earlier this month that the UK tech sector leads the way in the creation of ‘unicorn’ companies in Europe.
Unicorn companies which are privately owned technology companies valued in excess of £787 million ($1 billion). The UK saw 13 new unicorns created in 2018, the highest in Europe and third in the world behind China and the US.
Latest figures from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) show that goods exports from the South East increased by over four per cent to £47.7 billion, with exports from London increasing by more than six per cent to £38.9 billion.
Dr Liam Fox MP, Secretary of State for International Trade, said: “As the digital sector continues to grow year on year, this can be credited to pioneering UK companies that are consistently developing new cutting-edge technology, which is enhancing the way we work, learn and play.
“I would encourage any UK tech business that wants to explore new international markets and see what opportunities await on a global stage, to contact DIT who can help navigate the entire exporting process.”
