At Grunberg & Co we have always been proud of our innovative approaches to work and the delivery of services, whether that is the implementation of new technology or adoption of more efficient processes and procedures.
As we look to the future, we feel it is important that our employment practices mirror this innovative approach, which is why we are taking a big step to improving our team’s work-life balance by introducing an agile working policy.
Like many businesses, the events of the last year have challenged us and led us to develop new ways of managing our workload, while still delivering an exceptional service.
This new policy has been developed from the lessons we have learned and will allow our team to work from whatever location they want and at whatever time suits their needs, with only a few caveats to ensure the needs of clients and the firm are met.
Change was already afoot prior to the pandemic, but it has only been accelerated as the way that the accountancy sector and British industry in general has adapted.
Over the last year we have seen that staff can work well and productively from home and, in fact, many have put in additional hours, for which we are very grateful.
We also saw the impact that trying to juggle everyday life and a job had on our team, particularly their wellbeing and mental health, which is why we have developed this new work strategy.
Robert Bean, our Managing Partner, explains: “Rather than avoiding work, our staff showed how dedicated and resilient they are in the face of immense pressure.
“As a Partner, you always want to keep an eye on your team, as much to ensure their wellbeing is maintained, as anything else.
“But we now know that the majority of our team can deliver an excellent service, regardless of whether they are in the office or anywhere else.”
As a firm we have also been impressed with our ability to assist younger staff members, trainees and new joiners despite the difficulties remote working presented, which means we can offer agile working to everyone, while still focusing on staff development.
“The events of the last year have highlighted the importance of staff wellbeing. A business cannot operate without people and our staff continue to demonstrate they are as effective, if not more effective, when their needs are met and they have a good work-life balance,” added Robert.
“We are proud of the systems and policies that we have implemented to make this new work policy possible, as well as the immense effort put in by our team.
“Looking ahead, offering a flexible approach to work, for staff at all levels, is likely to play an important role in attracting and retaining the best talent, so we are glad we have taken this step now.”
