New ‘one-stop-shop’ to help exporters reach more markets

A new Government service will help “more British businesses export to Europe”, it has been announced.

The ‘one-stop-shop’ will provide businesses with the advice and information they need to trade around the world.

According to the latest statistics, the UK exported some £288 billion worth of goods to Europe last year.

But research shows that few small businesses are taking advantage of international trade due to the challenges facing them.

The one-stop-shop, comprising of a new export hotline and online information hub, hopes to remove barriers and give British businesses the tools they need to export to Europe.

This will include advice on the rules of origin, VAT, customs paperwork, and professional qualifications and regulations in international markets.

It is hoped that the new service will boost UK export revenues by up to £20 billion by 2030.

Commenting on the launch of the new service, International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said: “We are listening to the needs of businesses and that’s why we’re launching this fantastic new one-stop shop service, making it easier for British companies to export to Europe.

“We are focused on helping exporters fulfil their potential. Having a dedicated export support team at the end of a phone ready to help will ensure they can access the information they need, and get on with the job of selling their world-class products and services abroad, in turn helping the UK to build back better.”

Welcoming the one-stop-shop, Federation of Small Businesses National Chair Mike Cherry added: “One of the big barriers for small businesses trying to export has been access to key information and we hope this will provide welcome information and guide small exporters onto the market.”
