Eligible children can use HMRC funding for summer holiday activities

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is reminding working parents they can use Tax-Free Childcare to help pay for their childcare and related activities during the summer, such as accredited holiday clubs, childminders or sports activities.
This top-up for working parents enables them the peace of mind that their child is enjoying their summer and not breaking the bank.
Children aged up to 11 or 17, if the child is disabled, can benefit from the Tax-Free Childcare. It is also available for pre-school aged children attending nurseries, childminders or other childcare providers, as they usually have higher costs than other ages.
For every £8 deposited into a family’s account, the family receives an extra £2 top-up from HMRC – capped at £500 for every three months, and £1,000 for disabled children.

Parents or carers can apply for an account at any time and start using it immediately.
HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, Myrtle Lloyd, said:
“We want to help kids stay active this summer, whether they are going to summer holiday clubs or a childminder. A childcare top-up will go a long way towards helping parents plan and pay for summer activities to keep their kids happy and healthy.”
In March 2021, over 282,000 parents or carers used their account, the highest record number of families per month since the scheme launched in April 2017. In total, these families shared more than £33 million in this Government top-up.
